North-Eastern University (NEU), Gombe, has organized a special retreat for its newly engaged academic and non-academic staff as part of efforts to build a stronger workforce and align them with the university’s vision and mission.
The retreat brought together staff members from across different faculties, departments, and administrative units. It provided an opportunity for orientation, knowledge sharing, and team building, while also acquainting new staff with the university’s policies, culture, and commitment to excellence.

Declaring the retreat open, the Vice-Chancellor of NEU, Professor Yusuph Amuda-Yahaya, welcomed the new staff and charged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and commitment. He stressed that staff members are key drivers of the university’s growth and must work collectively to achieve its academic excellence goals.
In his words: “My message to you good people… For the growth of North-Eastern University, every staff, academic or non-academic, counts.” – Prof. Yahaya, 2025.
Leading the program sessions, the Director of ICT, Dr. Usman Baba, and the Chief Planning Officer, Mr. Sampson Amoefe Igbinoba, emphasized the importance of the retreat in preparing staff for effective service delivery. They noted that the retreat was designed to strengthen institutional capacity, foster collaboration, and ensure that all staff are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to the university’s development.

The retreat featured interactive sessions, presentations, and discussions on academic standards, administrative processes, research development, student engagement, and ethical conduct. It also included team-building exercises to promote unity and collaboration among participants.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment by the staff to uphold the ideals of NEU and work collectively toward the university’s aspiration of becoming a center of academic excellence in Nigeria and beyond.
