
North-Eastern University (NEU), Gombe, has officially entered into a strategic collaboration with the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM), marking a significant milestone in strengthening international academic partnerships and advancing research and innovation.
The Pro-Chancellor and Founder of NEU, Gombe, Dr. Sani Jauro led the university’s delegation alongside the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Sani Isyaka, to UTM in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, today, 6th October 2025.

During the meeting, UTM was represented by the President of UTM, Professor Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim, the Dean Faculty of Built Environment and Architecture Professor, Sr. Dr. Kherun Nita Binti Ali, the Director Alumni and International Collaborations, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Hisyam Bin Rasidi, and Senior Assistant Registrar, Mr. Amirul Shahrin Bin Amir.
The collaboration covers a wide range of academic and research areas, including:
Computing programmes:
Data Science;
Cybersecurity;
Software Engineering;
Information Technology; and,
Computer Science
The Built Environment and Surveying:
Architecture;
Quantity Surveying;
Building; and,
Urban & Regional Planning

In addition, both universities agreed to collaborate on joint grant writing, students exchange programmes, staff training, and remote supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Speaking at the agreement meeting, Dr. Sani Jauro expressed optimism that the partnership would greatly enhance NEU’s academic quality and global visibility. He emphasized that such collaborations are essential to developing a new generation of scholars and professionals equipped with international exposure and cutting-edge skills.
On his part, Professor Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim, President of UTM, welcomed the collaboration, describing it as a step toward building a stronger bridge between African and Asian higher institutions. He commended NEU’s commitment to excellence and innovation and reaffirmed UTM’s readiness to support joint research, staff development, student exchange, and capacity-building programmes that will benefit both institutions.
This agreement reflects another landmark in NEU’s commitment to global partnerships that promote innovation, academic excellence, and mutual development
