
The Governing Council of North-Eastern University (NEU), Gombe, held a high-level collaborative meeting with representatives from the prestigious University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia, aimed at fostering international partnerships and academic cooperation.
The North-Eastern University, Gombe delegation was led by the Pro-Chancellor and Founder, Dr. Sani Jauro (Danlawan of Gombe), alongside the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Sani Isyaka and Dr Junaid Olawale Quazim of the Department of public Health.
The University of Malaya team was represented by:
Professor Dr. Yvonne Lin Ai Lian, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International)
Professor Dr. Andri Andriyana, Director, International Relations Centre (IRC)
Mr. Muhammad Norazlin Mansor, Senior Partnership Manager, International Relations Centre (IRC)

The meeting agenda featured a corporate video and slide presentation, followed by exploratory discussions on concrete areas of collaboration. These include:
- Staff training;
- Students mobility programme;
- Students entrepreneurship forums;
- Research collaboration with the Centre for African Medicinal Plants Research (CAMPRE); and,
- Research collaboration with computing programmes (Cybersecurity and Data Science).

Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Sani Jauro emphasized NEU’s vision of becoming a hub of academic excellence in Nigeria and beyond, noting that international collaborations are key to enriching research, teaching, and student opportunities.
On their part, the University of Malaya representatives expressed their enthusiasm for working with NEU, particularly in advancing research, academic exchange, and mobility programmes that would mutually benefit both institutions.
The session concluded with the exchange of tokens of goodwill and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
This meeting marks another significant step in NEU’s mission to provide world-class education and strengthen its global academic footprint.
