The North-Eastern University (NEU), Gombe, continues to expand its global academic footprint with its active participation in the University Presidents Forum 2025 held at the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM). The NEU delegation was led by the Founder and Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Sani Jauro (Dan Lawan of Gombe), alongside the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Sani Isyaka.

During the high-level meeting, NEU joined other distinguished universities from across the world in exploring innovative collaborations focused on knowledge exchange, research, development, and cross-border academic partnerships. The discussions revolved around enhancing teaching and learning, fostering innovation, and addressing emerging global challenges through joint initiatives.

At the forum, the Pro-Chancellor and Founder of NEU, Dr. Sani Jauro, in a feedback remark he delivered on behalf of all the participating universities, reflected on the collective achievements and challenges discussed during the event. He emphasized that universities worldwide are united by a shared mission — to expand the frontiers of knowledge and tackle global issues such as economic development, artificial intelligence, and access to technology. Dr. Jauro commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) for his visionary leadership and hospitality, noting his openness to collaboration and his strong commitment to advancing higher education partnerships.

Dr. Jauro further highlighted the importance of strengthening international friendship and collaboration to drive lasting progress. He expressed deep satisfaction with the partnerships developed during the forum and reaffirmed NEU’s commitment to promoting research, innovation, and academic excellence through international linkages. The Pro-Chancellor concluded by wishing all participants safe travels and expressing hope for continued collaboration in future editions of the forum.

Earlier in 2023, the North-Eastern University, Gombe, had established similar international partnerships with several other prestigious institutions, including the University of Surrey, UK; Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, UK; Misr University of Science and Technology, Egypt; Pharos University, Alexandria, Egypt; and the TIGER Eye Foundation, Ghana. These partnerships have laid the foundation for joint research, student and staff exchanges, and professional training opportunities.

Most recently, NEU expanded its network through strategic collaborations with the University of Malaya, Malaysia, and the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM). The partnership covers multiple academic areas such as Data Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, and disciplines within Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Building, and Urban & Regional Planning. It also includes joint grant writing, student exchange programmes, staff training, and remote supervision for undergraduate and postgraduate research.

These collaborations reaffirm North-Eastern University’s vision of becoming a hub for academic excellence and innovation — not only in Nigeria but across Africa and beyond.
